How to Make Time for Yourself in Life

Whether you're an introvert or an extrovert, a giver or a taker, making time for yourself in life is important. Some people naturally seem to make more time for themselves to relax and wind down, while others seem to be constantly on the go. If you feel like you're often making time for other people, here are some of the ways you can make some changes so that there is some time for yourself too.

1. Make plans with yourself

You might have to consciously make an effort to plan time with yourself. An example of this is giving yourself one or two evenings per week. You could keep Tuesdays and Thursdays free for yourself after work, so you never accept dates and other appointments on those nights. Setting this time aside for yourself ensures you don't miss out on that all-important alone time.

2. Leave work on time (or early)

Whether it's a Friday and you've booked the next week off, or it's a Wednesday and you're feeling the week dragging, leaving work on time is vital to achieving a healthy work-life balance and making time for yourself. Speak to your manager if you don't manage to leave the office on time most days. Ask to leave early on certain days if you're working overtime in the week.

3. Spend time with people who make you feel good

Making time for yourself isn't just about spending time by yourself. It's about doing the things which make you feel happy. Spending time with the people who love you and make you feel good about yourself is a great way to boost your self esteem and confidence, while offloading some of your troubles and being in good company.

4. Get into the habit of meditating

Meditation is a great way to connect with yourself and with nature. Setting aside 10 minutes out of your day to meditate and think deeply about yourself and the world around you can have many benefits. Meditate in the morning before you start your day in order to get off to a positive start.

5. Take a break

Regardless of whether you have children, how busy it's getting in the office and how many odd jobs there are to do around the home, it's important that you take a break every now and then and go away on vacation. This could be alone or with your family and friends. Use the time to completely relax and step back from your usual responsibilities and stress.
